1. Labor is an important factor of production for all firms. The most recent unemployment rate is estimated at 9% (January 2011). Economists have identified three types of unemployment. Which type would affect your firm. Explain. Be sure to review section 3 of Chapter 20 in the background readings. Unemployment can occur in the overhead of the Ford Motor Corporation, whereas specific skills are sought for management, clerical, technical, and administrative positions, in which there is difficulty finding an employee with the required skills for the position to be filled, for a period of time. This period of time is considered structural unemployment for the overhead and technical support positions within the Ford Motor Company. The technical positions of the company require designers and engineers, overhead requires skilled laborers in management, administrative, financial, and other skill sets to fill specific overhead functions of the company. However, this is a lower population of the total Ford motor Company workforce population. It is cyclical unemployment which has the greatest affect on this type of corporation.
