Ford Motor Company Ford Motor Company, like most any other multinational enterprise, has ran into some cultural conflicts not only during their global expansion, but during the course of business within the nations in which they have already been established. Language barriers are the most obvious challenge any business must overcome. Before branding a product, it is wise to research how that product will be accepted by the consumer of the host nation. The advertising world is littered with examples of linguistic cross-cultural blunders. Ford had a problem in Brazil when the "Pinto" flopped. After seeing sales fail, the company found out that Pinto was Brazilian slang for "tiny male genitals" and Brazilians did not want to be seen driving a car relating to something with such a rather embarrassing for automobile name. Ford pried all the nameplates off and substituted the name Corcel, which means "horse." This was one
