Exercise 2.3: International Assignment Problems at XYZ Corporation 1. Why were expatriate managers returning early from their international assignments? What could Sheila do to remedy this situation? The reason why expatriate managers were returning early from their international assignments is because their spouses’ inability to adjust to the new culture. A way that Shelia could remedy this situation is to offer the cross-cultural and language training that their spouse is receiving to them as well. This will possibly help them adjust into the culture easier and possibly help them stay for the assignment. 2. What steps should Shelia take to establish a repatriation program? The steps that Shelia could establish for a repatriation program is to first foremost while the employee away the new assignment establish good and frequent communication between the home office and the employee away. Allow the employee to come back home to the U.S at least once year. Also once upon returning to the U.S. have seminars giving tips and hints on how to readjust to being back home. Allow them to visit with others once returning that have done the same assignment. 3.
