Slide 1 As defined ethics is a set of moral standards of what is good and right behavior. For managers in manufacturing companies ethics is important because consumers do not want to do business with a company that they do not trust. With the increasing competition from domestic and foreign companies manufacturing managers are under more pressure from the board of directors to outperform their competitors while maintaining an ethical business operation. This is much easier said than done which is why ethics is such a hot topic among businesses. This has led to companies creating a code of conduct. Codes of conduct are established by many companies to define the practices that are allowed by that specific company and those actions that will not be tolerated by the stakeholders. many companies are willing to take shortcuts in order to improve the gross margin and codes of conduct are made to limit the shortcuts taken Slide 2
