Alec Kraft AIS Ch.4 DQ: 1. Warehousing and shipping have separate departments because while it may create more paperwork and take more time, it provides for a way to double check the orders before it is shipped and make sure the orders are correct. This could end up saving time in the long run because it helps catch the orders that are wrong before they leave the company, which if the order was wrong once it got to the buyer then it would take more time, more paperwork and make the buyer angry with the firm. The warehousing and inventory control departments are different because the warehousing works on processing the orders while the inventory control just figures out the exact number of inventory so they always know how much they have and if any inventory is missing from the company. These two departments have different tasks and it saves time to split them up and be able to do them at the same time instead of have only one department that does all of this work. Also for these three departments, it’s good to have the segregation of duties in case someone in the company is trying to steal from the company. With less power given to each department, there is less likely to be fraud in the company. 2.
