Mohammed W. Makda RIC-376AA, Richmond Quad Buffalo, NY 14261 April 5, 2010 Dr. John B. Simpson President University at Buffalo 507 Capen Hall Buffalo, NY 14261 Dear President Simpson: I am obliged to be a part of your great institution and shall always be thankful for the quality of education I gained here. However, with utter regret I would like to share my concern about the mandatory meal plan which students residing in residence halls need to take as freshmen. Incoming freshmen who come to this beloved school every fall are forced to take meal plan. For most residents, this would be a privilege but for some is an obligation. Not all students wish to take a meal plan but are left with no choice. This is a major problem for new students. The international student community is the worst affected by this rule. International students are not used to the kind of food served in dining halls. Residents from some countries have dietary restrictions which are not taken care of in the dining halls. Eventually, this adds to another major change which international students need to make. It does not make them feel home away from home
