CHEN 3010 Applied Data Analysis Fall 2004 Group Members: __________________________ __________________________ __________________________ __________________________ Workshop 10: Probability and Normal Scores Plots Objective: It is frequently necessary to evaluate data sets as to whether they appear to be drawn from a normally-distributed population. The traditional manner of doing this is to plot data by hand on probability paper that has a nonlinear vertical scale which linearizes (straightens out) the pattern formed by normally-distributed data. A convenient way to do this in Excel is to create a related normal scores plot. The objective of this workshop is to understand how a normal scores plot is constructed and analyze the results for two different data sets. You will also see how to automate the plot generation using a VBA macro in Excel. And you will use Minitab to create probability plots with confidence envelope curves. Directions: 1. Log on to the computer system. Download a file called Workshop10.xls from the course web site. You will see that this file has two data sets repeated on two worksheets tabbed Data and Data(2) . You will work on the Data worksheet first. 2.
