Unformatted text preview: CHEN 3010 Applied Data Analysis Fall 2004 Names _________________________________ _________________________________ _________________________________ _________________________________ Workshop #3: Error Analysis Objective Error analysis is an important aspect of engineering calculations. It is essential to the correct interpretation of results, and failure to estimate error correctly can lead to faulty, and often embarrassing, conclusions. In this workshop, you will compute the volume of solid copper in a segment of copper tubing based on dimensional measurements using a set of calipers. You will also determine an error estimate for your volume value. Directions 1. Send a group member to obtain a set of calipers and a copper tube segment. 2. Number off your group members, 1-to-4 or 1-to-3. 3. As each group member makes measurements, s/he should record them silently on a separate sheet of paper that cannot be seen by other group members....
