CHEN 3010 Applied Data Analysis Fall 2004 Names _________________________________ _________________________________ _________________________________ _________________________________ Workshop #3: Error Analysis Objective Error analysis is an important aspect of engineering calculations. It is essential to the correct interpretation of results, and failure to estimate error correctly can lead to faulty, and often embarrassing, conclusions. In this workshop, you will compute the volume of solid copper in a segment of copper tubing based on dimensional measurements using a set of calipers. You will also determine an error estimate for your volume value. Directions 1. Send a group member to obtain a set of calipers and a copper tube segment. 2. Number off your group members, 1-to-4 or 1-to-3. 3. As each group member makes measurements, s/he should record them silently on a separate sheet of paper that cannot be seen by other group members. 4. Group member 1 measure outer/inner diameters from the blue markings and length from the green markings. 5. Group member 2 measure outer/inner diameters from the red markings and length from the black markings.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
