CHEN 3010 Applied Data Analysis Fall 2004 Names: __________________________ __________________________ __________________________ __________________________ Workshop #22 Hypothesis Testing and Confidence Intervals For Straight-line Linear Regression The purpose of this workshop is to conduct hypothesis testing and compute the confidence intervals on the parameters for straight-line linear regression. Although you will usually do this in a more automated fashion, it is important to know what is behind the “canned” programs that make the calculations for you. For the data on flow rate for a rotameter (reproduced below), you have already computed the slope and intercept using the formulae in the last workshop as: Rotameter Bob Position – x (inches) Measured Flow Rate y (cc/min) Predicted Flow Rate ˆ y Residuals e i =y i - ˆ y Squared Residuals e i 2 Squared X differenc x x i ( ) 2 Squared Y differenc ( ) y y i 2 1.14 112 1.37 115 1.89 152 2.09 199 2.45 161 2.04 209 2.73 237 3.04 231 3.19 233 3.09 259 3.05 287 3.10 240 3.34 281 3.75 311 4.19 392 4.59 357 b n x y x y n x x i i i n i i n i i n i i n i i n 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 2 79 02123 = [ ]

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
