Last week, DAR converted the Arroyo Estate or known as Hacienda Bacan, a property of the President's in-laws in Negros Occidental Province to industrial use. Newly- proclaimed Akbayan Representative Kaka Bag-ao, in her reaction to the last minute attempt to convert Hacienda Bacan, a property of the Arroyo family in Negros Occidental, said the “midnight land conversion” attempt of the 157-hectare Arroyo property located in Isabela, Negros Occidental seemed like a manipulation. <p>Earlier, a group of farmers on Monday asked the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to retain a farming estate in Negros Occidental as an agricultural land instead of industrial use. The farmers, about 20 of them who are also members of Task Force Mapalad (TFM), are from Hacienda (Estate) Bacan in Isabela, Negros Occidental. They held an hour-long rally infront of DAR Central Office on Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City. TFM president Jose Rodito Angeles told the Philippines News Agency (TFM) that the application for conversion was filed two weeks ago at DAR by the family of First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo to evade the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). The move was also to prevent the distribution of the 157-hectare estate to 67 farmer-
