Types of Personality Theories Type theories: certain # of types of ppl in the world. Trait theories Early Type Theories: Hippocrates’ Temperamental Types -treatments for ppl depends on what type of personality they had Sanguine: excess of blood. optimistic and cheerful. Melancholic: ruminative (chew things over, obsessing) excess of black vile Choleric: irritable, excess yellow vile Phlegmatic: no energy. unreactive [eeyore] Modern Type Theory: Type A Behavior Pattern -heart attack Chronic sense of time urgency Competitive achieving Sense of personal mission Many self-imposed deadlines- strict schedule High pace in mental and physical activities Aggression and hostility Aspects of Type A Behavior Pattern Found in ~50% of college freshmen and ~85% of corporate executives. Can be diagnosed using stress interview or interactive gaming.
