Ms. Prater Preparation for College Writing Reading Assignment 2 Bharati Mukherjee’s “Two Ways to Belong in America” I. What is the Main Idea? – Summarize the “point(s)” of Mukherjee’s essay. What type of essay is it? If this is an essay with an argument, then what is it? (Summarize in no more than three complete sentences.) The argument of this essay is the difficulties that two immigrant sister go through. Two sister that were raised the same way and used to think the same way, but after being in a foreign country for so long, their ideas and concepts of lives change and they both go in different directions. Even though they live thousand of miles away from each other, the power of blood calls and they are always there to help one another. II. Key words in action: A. List three words and/or phrases that you know are central to Mukherjee’s argument. First, provide a dictionary definition then give the definition as Mukherjee uses the term/phrase. 1. expatriate: is a person temporarily or permanently residing in a country and cul- ture other than that of the person's upbringing or legal residence.
