Introduction: Time allocation focuses on the way animals use their time. Arguably, time is a limited resource for in which animals get their behavior essential to life done. The way that animals interact in order to attain those resources, including time, often leads to form groups. Group behavior may enhance an organism’s fitness by allowing them to work cooperatively, in getting food, grooming, finding mates. The concept of safety in numbers applies to the prey, as animals who feed on them often choose to work cooperatively themselves. Cooperation stands across aggression. Aggression usually is described as “agonistic behavior” (Wilson 22). This behavior obviously increases an organism’s fitness because the individual will compete with others for those limited resources that allow it to live to reproduce. Cooperation with others from the same species leads to the “question of altruism” (Hinde 336). Altruistic behavior is usually involves behaving in such a way it helps others even though it harms the individual’s fitness (Campbell & Wasserman 1138). Taking in account natural selection, an apparanant paradox forms: How would behavior that may endanger the animal itself, get passed on and become prominent, since the animal’s fitness is not increased at all? Group and kin selection are currently the most accepted support for altruism, as self sacrifice may increase the offspring of relatives, so a portion of the individual’s genes still get passed on (Wilson 106). This fitness is called inclusive In the case of the bird warning call, one of the most known behaviors to support altruism, the bird may have selfish motives that do in fact help its own fitness (Hinde 337).
