Sarah Swope Dr. Kellie J. Hagewen Sociology 250 February 10, 2011 Norm Deviation The norm I am planning to deviate away from is a folkway. A folkway is a norm that people in society tend to follow, but do not get punished for if the folkway is broken. My plan is to dress in a onesie pajama outfit like babies wear, and go to my classes acting normal as if the outfit is simply part of my everyday clothing. I believe that people will steer clear of me, thinking I am crazy for wearing such an absurd outfit. My reasoning behind this is simply from observing people’s reactions so crazily dressed people such as Santa Claus, women dressed up in large dresses, and risqué-ly dressed teens on Halloween. On Tuesday, February 8, 2011, I went to class in my red onesie pajamas with sock monkeys on the feet. People were surprisingly unaffected by my odd apparel. Someone asked me where I bought the onesie because she was looking to get one herself. Another asked why I was wearing the outfit and I told her it was my choice of clothing
