Anthony, Elizabeth Candy Staton, Elisabeth Blackwell, Margaret Fuller, Grimke sisters, and Amelia Bloomer Women’s Rights Convention – demanded ballot for women Declaration of Sentiments states men and women are equal E Public schools became tax supported Schools had bad teachers and Horace Mann fought for better schooling Didn’t want to over-educate women because it could be ‘bad’ Libraries become more common Plow R Liberalism in religion started in 1800 Church attendance was high and regular in 1850 (3/4 of population attended) Deism was highly believed too Past “Puritans” now became “Unitarians” Huge wave of spiritual fervor resulted in imprisonments, church reform, temperance cause, women’s movement, and slavery abolishment Easterners traveled westward to Christianize Indians
