Alizabeth Madison Lab 4 Activity SC140 Lab Report Purpose and Procedures: In this lab we made experimental observations of a cart being pulled across a seemingly frictionless board. After these observations were made, we were able to make calculations from what we know about Newton’s 2 nd Law. After we made those calculations, we were able to compare them to a theoretical calculation we had made, as to what the actual calculations should have been. The procedures were use a spring scale to find the mass of the cart. Then we had to build a set-up with the cart, a pulley, a long piece of string, and a board. We then had to choose three different hanging masses to pull the cart across the board with. Theoretically we should have been able to read the tension from the spring scale while the cart was being pulled down by the hanging masses. Data Analysis: We first found out that our theories were flawed by the fact that we could read the tension from the spring scale because it went too fast to be read. Case #1:
