1 n If condensation results, forming a fog, then the sun  cannot get to the ground during the day, and the  inversion will persist for days until a major storm clears it  out. n Sea or lake breezes also bring cold air in under warm air,  and can cause inversions or add to existing inversions.

2 n Finally, Air flowing down the lee side of a moutain range  is warmed by adiabatic compression. n The warm air rides over the cold air, thus forming a  strong inversion that can be very persistent.
