Nathan Ellis AP History February 1, 2005 Chapter 29 Yellow Journalism o The media makes fake stories just to get people worked up, giving the public views that the media wants them to have, sometimes to benefit the media. Captain Alfred Thayer Mahan o Mahan wrote the book The Influence of Sea Power Upon History, 1669-1783 in 1890, claiming that every successful nation had a successful navy, starting the naval race in the world. What America is willing to go to war over o America was willing to go to war over things such as land – we almost went to war with Germany over the Samoan islands. Issues with American’s deaths in Chile almost caused war as well. Due to us lynching 11 Italians, we almost went to war with Italy as well. This whole aggressive mood was created with the argument with Canada over seal hunting off the coast of Alaska. Problems with Venezuela o Gold was discovered and everyone got super riled up. Under the Monroe Doctrine, Britain was not allowed in Venezuela. London denied the existence of the Monroe Doctrine and the
