Nathan Ellis February 29, 2005 AP US History Chapter 34 Terms Red Scare #1 – The Red Scare was a “mood” in the nation you could say, in that everyone was afraid that Communism would spread through the US. Unions used to be considered slightly communistic and socialistic. Sacco and Vanzetti Trial – KKK – The KKK was a group of Nativists that didn’t like anyone who was different than them, pretty much. They didn’t like black or foreigners and they would often result to violence. Immigration Act of 1924 – The Immigration Act of 1924 limited the amount of annual immigration into the states, and many countries were upset with this for obvious reasons. This replaced the stopgag legislation of 1921 and quotas for foreigners were cut from 3 percent to 2 percent. Prohibition Problems – Alcohol is addicting, and the prohibition didn’t stop people from drinking. Now that it was illegal, it didn’t mean people wouldn’t find ways to drink, and one of those ways was bathtub gin, which often times hurt or killed people. Other problems were the speakeasies which were bars hidden within buildings behind walls. They were called speakeasies
