Nathan Ellis February 8, 2005 AP US History Chapter 36 Terms First 100 Days – The “First 100 Days” refers to Roosevelt’s first 100 days in office, in where more legislation was passed during that time than any other 100 day span in any other presidency. Bank Holiday – Originally not a holiday, this day was to stop the banks from going into a panic when people started taking out all their money at one time. Fireside Chats – FDR entered almost every American’s home by using his “fireside chats”, which he gave over radio waves sharing with America his plans and policies. CCC – Civilian Conservation Corps. People were losing jobs quick during this depressed state and FDR set this up to give job opportunities within government camps to young men. HOLC – Home Owners’ Loan Corporation. This was set up to refinance the mortgages on houses, but was limited to houses that were not considered farms. AAA – Agricultural Adjustment Administration. This paid farmers to not plant as much harvest.
