Board of Education 1954 – SEATO formed which was like NATO but for South Eastern Asian areas, this didn’t work out so well 1954 – First McDonald’s hamburger stand opens starting the “fast food nation” 1954 – CIA sponsored coup in Guatemala 1955 – Montgomery bus boycott 1955 – Geneva summit meeting 1955 – Warsaw Pact in response to NATO by USSR 1955 – AF of L merges with CIO 1956 – Soviets crush Hungarian revolt and US doesn’t help Hungry at all 1956 – Suez crisis 1956 – Ike defeats Stevenson for presidency AGAIN 1957 – Little Rock school crisis – desegregation and Ike has to send the 101 st airborne division to help keep riots down
