Institutional Pharmacy Setting Institutional Pharmacy Setting Institutional pharmacy technicians have many tasks and responsibilities. The order process of medications has differences in an institutional setting rather than a regular pharmacy along with other procedures. The issues may also differ from a regular pharmacy setting as opposed to an institutional setting as well as the way these issues are dealt with. A pharmacy technician in an institutional pharmacy setting has specific tasks that need to be done. Some of the job responsibilities of the pharmacy technician include: collecting data and reporting inventory and billing, inspecting the medication rooms in the institutional pharmacy setting, conduct narcotic audits, replace outdated medications, inspect orders for accuracies, help educate the personnel with training in meetings. The technician is also responsible for maintaining the dispensing systems, and packaging medications in blister packs. For example in an assisted living facility the pharmacy technician will deliver the medications to the facility. Once the medication is delivered they technician will collect signatures from the on duty staff showing the release of medications in his or her possession. The technician must check all orders
