Nathan Ellis Box #621 BI 123 R and D 7 1. What do you know about the city of Colosse? Colosse was one of a trio of cities (Hierapolis and Laodicea being the other two) located about 125 miles southeast of Ephesus. This was a rich area both in mineral wealth and merchandising, with a large population, both Jewish and Gentile. These three cities were almost within view of each other. 2. Had Paul Visited Colosse? Paul had never visited Colosse (see 2:1). During his three years of ministry in Ephesus, “all Asia” heard the Gospel (Acts 19:10, 26). 3. Where did the fellowship of Colosse probably meet? This fellowship may have met in the home of Philemon, for he lived at Colosse (Col. 4:9 and Philemon) 4. Give some details about the heresy that had invaded the Colossian church. The heresy was what is now commonly called Gnosticism. These people claimed to have a superior knowledge of spiritual things. It was a doctrine that was very eclectic and syncretistic of Christianity, Jewish legalism, Greek philosophy and Eastern mysticism.
