2 Electromotive force emf is the "energy per unit electric charge" used to separate two opposite charges. It has the same units as electric potential. (volts) Sources of emf in circuits include batteries, capacitors, generators… pump High (+) reservoir Low (-) reservoir
3 Kirchhoff’s Circuit Rules (the simple statement) 1-VOLTAGE RULE (LOOP RULE): The sum of changes in the potential ( V ) encountered in a complete traversal of any loop of a circuit must be zero. 2-CURRENT RULE (JUNCTION RULE): The sum of all currents into a point in a circuit is equal to the sum of all currents leaving that point.
