DeGrossi 1 Luke DeGrossi Mark Shiffman Traditions in Conversation 11 October 2007 Light and Darkness In The Gospel of John , there are several connotations that portray light as good and darkness as evil. Throughout the Gospel, the theme of light and darkness is very important to the messages being delivered. In Nicodemus , Jesus says that “everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God” (John, 3, Nicodemus, 20h). Jesus believes that evil hides in the darkness, whereas good exposes itself into the light. He who lives in the light is proud to be living and is happy to be a work of God. The individual is eager to see the world and expose his colors and worship the Lord. Whoever lives in the light has nothing to hide and is truthful. However, those who live in darkness are malicious and cannot be trusted. They do evil and want
