Multiple Domains / One IP Address We’ve discussed having multiple IP addresses for one domain: Rose.LonghornFlowers.com – 28.111.201.100 www.LonghornFlowers.com – 28.111.201.101 mail.LonghornFlowers.com – 28.111.201.102 The assumption here is that you have multiple servers for this one domain that all need to be exposed to users on the internet i.e. too much load on this one domain for server

Multiple Domains / One IP Address Let’s go the other direction… Assume you have one physical server You would like to host a bunch of domains on this server Relatively small domains Completely independent domains

Multiple Domains / One IP Address This is the business model for many hosting companies One physical server They sell space on that server to small businesses / organizations Each domain appears externally to be an independent entity With it’s own domain name With it’s own IP address With it’s own server etc.
