So What’s Up This Week……….11 Anthropology 155 Due to a typo, I have made minor modifications to the weekly reading assignments in the Syllabus. The Syllabus posted on Blackboard is up to date, and the accurate assignments are listed on this sheet. Chapter 21 Marriage and Family. In all of the remaining subject material in this course, issues will emerge. Much of this material is needed for you to generate an informed opinion or position on these issues. Understanding how things work in a culture and why they do things the way they do is important! Arranged marriage is one of these ‘hot button’ issues for us, and knowing how marital and family systems operate in other cultures is critical to having an informed opinion. We need to consider economics and supernatural beliefs in the process of understanding how these systems work. I will want you to know the differences between polygyny, polyandry, and monogamy. Levirate and Sororate are important concepts here. Sample Questions
