Week 3: Empowerment and Power Introduction: Suppose that you are the leader of a team of significant size. One of your team members is ready to handle more responsibilities. What will you do to facilitate the team member’s transition to a lead role in your team? How will you help that person to transition from the role of a peer to the role of a leader? This week, you will learn about ethical leadership and followership with respect to power and empowerment. You will also learn about measures to increase personal and interpersonal effectiveness in maintaining healthy relationships. Learning Outcomes By the end of this week, you will be able to: Distinguish between leadership and followership, and the similarities between the roles of follower and leader at all levels of the organization Explain the historical development of motivational theory and of its impact upon leadership styles
