This course is organized into three modules.  The first module in this course is designed  to familiarize you with the basic aspects of risk and risk management as they apply to all  firms and individuals.   A second portion of the course presents an overview of the  characteristics of insurance, and the basic aspects of the insurance market.  Third, the  increasing   problems   associated   with   the   provision   of   employee   benefit   plans   are  examined.   Issues such as health care cost containment, flexible benefits, and the tax  treatment of benefit plans and retirement plans are explored.   Finally, the role social  insurance is discussed highlighting the public sector’s role in risk management in the  United States. This course aims to equip you with an understanding of the principles which will aid in  your understanding of the evolving nature of risk management and insurance and how
