January 20, 2005 Dear University Community Members: As we are all aware, on December 26, 2004, a magnitude 9 earthquake, the most powerful the world has seen in forty years, produced a multitude of incredibly devastating tsunamis in south and southeast Asia. Nearly 170,000 people in 11 countries have perished, and at least one million are left homeless and threatened with disease. In the midst of this epic tragedy, the world has come together to provide relief to these areas. In the past, the Nicholls family has been most generous when called upon. Once again, we ask your assistance for a worthy cause. Monetary donations will be collected beginning Monday, January 24, through Friday, February 11. We ask that you be as generous as possible in your effort. Our goal is to raise $8,200. The Nicholls State community is comprised of approximately 7,500 students and over 700 faculty/staff. Our goal would be accomplished easily with the contribution of $1 from each of us.
