Its goal is to help students strengthen listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Chinese with a focus on reading and writing. Course Objective To acquire new colloquial expressions and 300 or more new vocabulary in Chinese; To be able to read simplified stories or writings about daily life in Chinese without the help of dictionary; To be able to write short essays on given topics using learned grammatical patterns and vocabulary; To be able to express one’s own opinion over given topics in Chinese fluently and appropriately. Textbook 1) Scenario Chinese I, by Yuehua Liu, Jinyu Li, Xianmin Liu and Liangyan Ge, 2008, World Book Press. 2) Materials prepared by the instructor. Evaluation and Requirements Class attendance/participation (30 x 3) 90 Homework (10 x 20) 200 Essays (10 x 20) 200 Vocabulary quizzes (20 x 10)
