Elizabeth Spartas Exercise 4 10-2-2008 His disheveled clothing reflected the troubles of his past. The old jacket- once a beautiful green looked the color of rotted leaves. Stains appeared in obvious places, although those spots looked a bit more worn, suggesting a great deal of unsuccessful effort had been put in to remove the blemishes. He wore Carhart pants. Their thick khaki colored material was built to last. But Jim’s were no longer thick, he was perhaps the first person able to wear out a pair wearing them for everyday tasks. The hole worn through each knee exclaimed this to the world through its ragged lips. His leather boots were scuffed and a grey wool sock peeked out from the tip of the left boot. His tired blue eyes looked at me. He was my brother- I hadn’t seen him in seven years, not since our mother had died. He had been close to her and the death was too hard a blow for him. He decided that event meant it was time. It was time to go elsewhere- to experience the world. However he never planned things out and now he was back. “Where you livin’ these days, Jim? I haven’t seen you in I don’t know how long.”
