Elizabeth Spartas Grade 2 Concepts: Enduring Understanding: Compound words are words that are formed when two or more words are joined together Essential Question: How does one make a compound word? Planning Phase 1. Content Objective: Students will learn what a compound word is 2. Process Objective: Students will create their own compound words and present them in a persuasive ‘advertisement.’ EALRs/GLEs addressed: 3.1.1 Materials Needed: Coloring supplies Paper Modifications/Adaptations: 1. ELL: Be sure that this student is paired with a student who is English proficient. Provide a word bank of possibilities 2. ADHD: Conducting the lesson 1. Tell the students that they will be learning about a special kind of words today— compound words! Explain that a compound word consists of two words that are put together to form a new word. 2. Ask students to name a few compound words that they might be able to think of—list
