Elizabeth Spartas 10-7-2009 David Meyers Lecture- Extra Credit Core 150 David Myers lectured regarding the topic of his book A Friendly Letter to Skeptics and Atheists: Musings on Why God Is Good and Faith Isn't Evil . Within the lecture he discussed several interesting bits of information regarding the growing hostility towards religion and why it is that there is not a need for such an attitude. One thing that Mr. Myers discussed was the way that religion is seen as an antagonistic and toxic force. A large part of this feeling comes from the idea that religion does not support science and that it seeks to prove science wrong. However, Mr. Meyers commented that within Christian religion science is, in fact very important, as we are called to test everything around us in order to find what is real and what is not. Christianity holds the idea that we must test everything and hold fast to what is good. Another topic that Mr. Meyers discussed was that of the benefits that religion
