You need the usual preparation for this tutorial. s Review carefully your lecture notes for Weeks 2. s Complete your textbook reading and Review Activities (related to ideas covered in Week 2). s Be able to use your calculator. In particular, for this tutorial you should: s NEWSPAPER: Bring with you a page or two of the share price information from a recent daily newspaper. The business sections of most newspapers have this information daily, other than possibly on Mondays and Sundays. Activity 1 Initial Public Offering (IPO) Domino’s Pizza The Domino’s brand was founded by Thomas and James Monaghan in the United States in December1960 and is owned by Domino’s Pizza, Inc., a listed US company. There are more than 7,500 Domino’s stores in over 50 countries. The first Domino’s store was opened in Australia in 1983 when the company was incorporated as a proprietary company. In Australia and New Zealand, Domino’s Pizza holds the exclusive Master Franchise Agreement for Domino’s in these two countries. Domino’s Pizza operates both company-owned and operated corporate stores and franchisee owned and operated franchised stores, both selling home delivered and take-away pizza. At 31 December 2004, Domino’s Pizza had 333 stores (101 corporate and 232 franchised stores) in Australia and New Zealand, employing over 9,700 employees across the network. The network was forecast to have sales of $300 million for the year to 30 June 2005. In April 2005, the company converted to a public company and adopted the name Domino’s Pizza Australia New Zealand Limited. Domino’s Pizza made a debut on the stock exchange on 16 May 2005 with an issue price of $2.20 per share. The company offered 34,090,909 shares to the public.
