Everest Simulation instructions S2 2011 1 The Everest Simulation Instructions Description of the Everest simulation In this online simulation, you will play one of five or more roles on a team of hikers attempting to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Each participant will be given information and resources to use during the climb. Some teams will have a sixth person, the observer of the team. This team member is in the unique position of being able to oversee what is happening during the simulation. Those teams fortunate enough to have a 6 th member will find them an invaluable resource for both the simulation and the assessment. Preparation for the simulation You must fill in the preferred contact details sheet found on Black Board and give it to your tutor before the week 3 tutorial (by week starting 1 August 2011). If you change tutorials, give your contact details to your new tutor. Activate your UNSW student email account as any notification of team changes will be sent to this email address. You will find information about who is on your team and the link to the Everest simulation on the course Blackboard site. Look under the Everest tab to find the link and your team allocation. What if I can’t find a team member? 1. Check with your tutor to see if they have contact information for the missing student(s). 2. Post a search query for missing team members on the Discussion board on Blackboard. 3. Check your UNSW email account as you may have received information from the Everest coordinator about your team. Some students will drop MGMT1001. The Everest coordinator will attempt to move students who have an Observer role to fill in vacancies. If you are have an Observer role be sure to check your student email account on a regular basis before the start date of Everest 1.

Everest Simulation instructions S2 2011 2 If, after following the above three steps, you are still unable to contact a team member, notify the Everest coordinator (Dr. Bernard Gan: kcgan@unsw.edu.au ) and advise him of your situation. For Everest 1 you must email Dr. Gan by 6pm by Friday 12 August if you cannot contact a team mate. For Everest 2 you must email Dr. Gan by 6pm Tuesday 30 August if you cannot contact a team mate. Every effort will be made to ensure you are able to complete the simulation with a team of 5 or more players if the coordinator is advised by the above dates. The Simulation Students must organise among their teammates when and where they will do both simulations. Each person must use their own computer with internet access. Teams can choose to work as a virtual team, in separate locations; or together, using their own computers. However, the simulation must be played by everyone at the same time. There is a link on Blackboard that will give you access to the Everest website.
