AMS 310 Practice for Exam 1 Exam 1 will be on Oct 5, 2010 at 2:20 pm in our regular classroom. This practice exam does not necessarily represent ALL of the information that will be tested on Exam 1. Please study all we discussed in class, not only what is present here. The exam will cover most sections in Chapters 2, 3, 4. The exam will have 24 multiple choice questions. 1. Two researchers consider applying for a National Science Foundation grant. The grant will be awarded to one or neither of the researchers, but not both. Bill knows he will apply and has already begun his application. Tina will apply with probability .6. Tina is a stronger researcher, and if she applies, then the probability Bill will be awarded the grant is .3. If Tina does not apply, then the probability Bill will be awarded the grant is .65. Find the probability that Tina did not apply, given that Bill is awarded the grant. 2.
