Question 1 “A goal-setting theory is a theory that suggests that if goals are to motivate employees, they should be specific, challenging, measurable, results oriented and specify a timeframe for completion. When these five principles are used to establish work goals, they act as clear signals managers and employees can use to gauge performance. When employees understand why their efforts have, or have not, led to improved job performance (and better rewards). Managers can also give employees more accurate feedback about how they have performed relative to their co-workers performance. When their performance can be measured, employees can also calculate if the outcomes and rewards they receive are in line with how they have performed. There are three reasons why goal-setting theory helps to increase motivation. First, a goal directs and focuses an employee’s effort toward achieving the goal. Second, the goal motivates the employee to be persistent. In other words, a goal is a constant reminder about what
