BS Ethics, BBA 4751-04D James Tilley, Section 1 Exam, Q 7 When a company begins constructing a whistle blowing policy there are five areas that must be covered. First, a statement of responsibility, your employees must know that they are responsible to report serious unethical or illegal issues. This will let them know they are obligated to do what’s right and keep a lookout for any wrong doing. Second is a simplistic way of reporting and to whom the report will be handled by. If the reporting system is filled with countless papers and red tape this will discourage any reporting regardless of the complaint. Third a well trained staff to receive the reports and conduct investigations concerning the matters. They should be very knowledgeable of the corporation and have authority within the corporation. If there is a slow and un-enthusiastic reaction on conducting investigations employees will neglect reporting issues at all. The corporation must show a general concern for fixing the issue that is being reported. Fifth there must be a guarantee against retaliation. This is the most important part of the policy, knowing that you will not lose your job while reporting a serious issue within the corporation. While having a whistle blowing policy there may be false accusations but through good investigations the company will benefit knowing that any issue will be addressed and handled quickly....
