Cultures in a global environment The impact of culture on organizational performance varies according to the size of an organization Entities with a global market coverage experience greater effect of cultural diversity than the local onesCultural management is one of the challenging roles in a cross-cultural environment, and it is mainly caused by cultural diversity National culture comprises customs, values, thoughts, and faith of the citizens of a state that direct their behavior Business culture is made up of thoughts, values, and customs of the occupants of a country, which guide the business functions in that state
Cultures in a global environmentIndustry culture describes the common values and customs that govern the manner in which firms in a particular industry conduct their business Organizational culture shows the common conduct, thoughts, faith, customs, and values that influence how individuals in an entity execute their functions Globalization has shaped the organizational culture of global entities by creating a worldwide perspective of the cultural management However, companies must be prepared to address cross-cultural conflicts that often dominate firms with a culturally diverse workforce (Putthiwanit, 2015)
Reasons for expatriate turnover Expatriate turnover is known to occur when individuals working in foreign countries decide to return to their home countries before completion of their overseas assignment Inappropriate employee selection is one of the main factors that contribute to inability of the expatriates to meet the objectives of their organizations and contemplate quitting Adaptability problems are another cause of high expatriate turnover. Some individuals find it difficult to adapt to new conditions in foreign countries due to low adaptive capacity Inability to cope with new cultures and responsibilities compel some expatriates to terminate their foreign assignments
