Reading Note for Stalking with Stories. Author portrayed an interesting cultural phenomenon that culture per se could serve like law in a society. Again show me the magical power of culture. Apache use their storytelling and the locations mentioned in stories as a potent tool to regulate people’s behavior. When a person misbehaved, he or she would be told a story which has characters committed similar misdeeds like him or her and then suffer the dreadful consequences of their actions that violate Apache standards of acceptable behaviors, normally it ends up with death. More powerfully, Apache storytellers agree that historical tales are about the events recounted in tales and about the sites in which the event occurred. The storytellers might dye away but the landscape is always there and the potency of story would not fade. So in other words, storytelling would trigger a process of self-examination to think about the mistakes in life and try to behave right to avoid tragedy in stories happen again. I am surprised that storytelling as kind of cultural ritual that could so effectively
