Right of Passage By Christopher Webb Winning three NCAA Division III Championships, IU’s junior shot putter Monique Riddick, could’ve maybe took her talents elsewhere as she had five schools on her desire list to transfer to. Schools like Rutgers University in New Jersey, could’ve easily picked up the phone or maybe just drove five miles east to Riddick’s home in nearby Edison, New Jersey, and gave her the biggest recruiting pitch of the century, yet according to Riddick, the answer would’ve been no. “The coach at Rutgers system did not fit my style,” Said Riddick “The Rutgers coach is very picky in who he recruits and the only time i had a chance to meet him, he came off very arrogant as a coach.” Riddick, believed the coaching staff at IU gave her the best chance to be, not only a national champion again but also a world class athlete, that neither Montclair State nor any other schools could push her to become.
