1 Amber Scott Professor Moehler- Timothy Fallis COMM 125 25 January 2010 22 January 2010 Reading Summary Craig A. Anderson’s article, “An Update on the effects of playing violent video games,” begins with a brief history of this topic. Issues with video game violence became apparent with various school shootings starting in 1997. Although there was an array of incidents, they “do not provide a solid scientific basis for public policy decisions or for the testing and development of relevant scientific theories of aggression,” (Anderson). Another historical element of this issue is that in comparison to research for television and movie effects, there has not been a substantial amount of funding to analyze violent video games. Following this brief background, the article then goes on to depict and analyze an original and updated meta-analysis of the video game issue, which includes criticisms of the research.
