There is more than just the game of basketball that requires strategy when one steps into the Allstate Arena to watch the DePaul Blue Demons take on the University of Connecticut Huskies. There is a whole other game going on in the stands, and thus cannot be experienced by merely watching it on the television. Trash-talking and distracting is the objective in this game. Cheering in the student section under the basketball hoop is a cut-throat sport in itself. The exemplification of spirit and pride began as the pack of blue demon fans was paraded to the arena in the school buses, sometimes so filled that students must sit three to a seat. I watched the transformation of students into blue demons with the aid of face paint and outlandish outfits. I even witnessed a student wearing a DePaul flag as a cape while his neck was draped with beads. The student section beneath the basketball hoop filled up quickly with the draped with beads....
