Stephanie Baggio Honors 101/201 Prof. Goffman 21 February 2011 A Woman’s Touch Rosie and Leela play influential roles in the lives of Raju and Ganesh with respect to their professions. Rosie acts as a distraction to Raju’s career as a renowned guide, while Leela acts as a liaison between Ganesh’s transformation from a masseur to a successful writer and mystic. Raju begins his narrative with stating that his troubles would not have started but for Rosie (Narayan 4). The lovely and elegant woman consumes Raju’s thoughts and attention (Narayan 49). Raju nearly gave up all his routines jobs, such as a shopkeeper and a guide at the railroad station, in order to be of exclusive service to Rosie and her husband. His new job description which included keeping Rosie company and amusing her led to the discovery of her dancing abilities (Narayan 88). Raju’s infatuation with her dancing and their relationship leads to Rosie moving into Raju’s house. Raju becomes distracted by Rosie and loses sight of his family and cultural values which regard dancers as bad, “loose” women (Narayan 52). Raju’s mother refers to Rosie as a
