File Placement: How to place the files on (multiple) disks for efficient retrieval? 3 File Organization Two organizations: Constant time-length: Retrieve fixed time-length frames from the disk Constant data-length: Retrieve fixed amount of data from the disk 4 Constant Time-length Also called Variable Bit Rate (VBR) Each frame is allocated contiguously on the disk File consists of a frame index Specifies where each frame of the file is located Similar to inode Playback: Frame indices are checked, data retrieved from disk
