Although devoting time and energy to one particular activity creates a strong sense of belonging, high school students need to participate in many activities in order to discover their true passion, adjust easily to college, and deal with failure. Although extracurricular activities can lead students to give in to peer pressure or distract them from academic pursuits, participation in extracurricular activities leads to positive social relationships and behaviors including deeper friendships, an outlet for anger and frustration, and physical health and exercise. Less likely to drop out or commit suicide. Better student, social and psychological benefits: higher self-esteem, lower drop-out rates -All students should be required to participate in an extracurricular activity of their choice. Besides just an elective class, they should try all activities that they are interested in and explore their talents. -it’s not simply because spending time on extracurricular activities keeps students busy so they are not tempted to waste time or do drugs or drink. Often participation in these activities is why students get caught up in those unhealthy, poor activities because they feel the need to belong and thus give in to peer pressure.
