Caitlin Dekker English 315 November 29, 2010 Extracurricular Activities: Vital Educational Pursuits ENTHYMEME: Although participation in extracurricular activities can lead students to give in to peer pressure or distract them from academic pursuits, the government must provide the funds for continuation of structured extracurricular activities in high schools so that students learn healthy social behaviors, improve psychological well-being, and achieve later success in life. OUTLINE: I. Healthy Social Behaviors A. Less risky behavior 1. Less likely to drop out 2. Less likely to do drugs/alcohol B. Less behavioral problems II. Improved Psychological Outcomes A. Higher self-esteem B. Less likely to commit suicide or have suicidal thoughts III. Later Success A. Higher high school GPA B.
