Video Title: Social Inequalities in High School Concept: This concepts utilized in this video include class consciousness, symbolic boundaries of class, race as a social construction, and assimilation. Authors: Casey Gresh and Jenn Myers Summary Cady is a new student at North Ridge High School in Evanston, Illinois. This is her first time at a public American high school as she has been home schooled in Africa her whole life. She becomes friends with the “art freaks” and they go through the different social groups via lunch tables. She is warned to avoid the most exclusive clique, The Plastics, and of course join the “art freaks.” High school is portrayed to her as a hierarchy, in which The Plastics are at the top, and the other groups fall beneath. Cady even compares being in The Plastics to “leaving the actual world, and entering Girl World,” which is composed of its own society, rules, and regulations.
