Vincent Phan Sociology 101 April 18, 2010 Crash 1. Racism – A set of beliefs that one’s own racial group is naturally superior to other groups. During the opening scene Ria was talking to Kim Lee and belittles her due to her speech. Ria decides to mock Kim Lee and say “oh sorry I didn’t see your blake light”. Since Ria is mocking Kim Lee, she feels that she is more superior since she can speak English better than Kim Lee. This is a example of discrimination. When Officer John Ryan decides to pull over Cameron and his wife. Mr. Ryan knew that, that wasn’t the right vehicle and still decides to pull him over since he’s black. This is an example of prejudice. At the crime scene where the supposed racist Cop shot the other black officer. Detective Graham Waters said that “he shot him the wrong nigger” This is an example of racism because the Cop shot the other black officer because he was black. When Anthony and Peter were leaving the restaurant and ran into the District attorney and his wife. The wife decides to clench onto her husband since she is afraid of the black men. This is an example of discrimination.
